My partner in life, Tiblets, is the most genuine and loving person I have ever known. After a fantastic career at a major real estate investment company in The Netherlands, Tiblets took on an even tougher role of motherhood. We have three daughters who are as lucky as I am to have Tiblets in their life.
Lianda, my oldest daughter, is a happy and joyful young lady who loves helping others. She graduated from the University of Washington in Biology with a nd minor in Neurology. She is now working at a well established foundation in Seattle.
My middle daughter Salina is ambitious, considerate and very hard working. She graduated in environmental science and economics from the University of Washington. She is now a n Environmental and Global Affairs Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School while she works across international development wearing multiple hats.
Haben, my youngest, is caring and gracious who feels everyone's pain. She is blessed with an incredible talent in music and art. She is an undergraduate of Bellevue College and an accomplished singer and song writer. She is pursuing a professional career in music. Follow her on Instagram, SoundCloud or Youtube.
The three sisters, also known as EriAm Sisters, have performed as a singing group since they were little, once appearing on Americas Got Talent as semifinalists.
As for my personal life, I consider myself an introvert who can always find something to do at home. I am a family-man who loves to stay home which means I never get tired of doing the same thing over and over again. As introverted as I am, once I manage to get out of my house, I genuinely enjoy people and socializing.
In my free time, I enjoy listening to music and playing guitar, kirar or the keyboard. I love learning new things and, thanks to the internet, there is no shortage of things to learn.
Life has many twists and turns. Each one of us have a story to tell, some more exciting and captivating than others. I was inspired to share my personal story with the public, not because there is something special about me as an individual, but because people need to know about the challenges and struggles refugees go through to succeed in their host country. I also want to tell the story of the people who are passionate about helping others.
You will notice, I have written the book with a level of vulnerability, openness and humility to give you a complete picture of my journey, which represents the life of many Eritrean refugees.

The story of an 11-year-old Eritrean boy - Mulu - who grew up in "Piccolo Roma " Asmara, the charming capital city of Eritrea, filled with Roman architecture and Italian gelato. The serenity of this Italian colonial city disappears as Mulu flees the capital, only to find himself in the jungle, an AK-47 on his hip..
